TPAD – Appraiser’s Role in Teacher Appraisal (Head / Deputy)
As an appraiser within the TPAD portal, your role is essential in evaluating the performance of teachers in your institution. The appraisal process is designed to ensure that teaching standards are maintained and that teachers receive the necessary guidance to improve their professional practice. Step 1: Logging in to the TPAD Portal
Begin by logging into the TPAD portal. Enter your TSC number, ID number, and password, complete the CAPTCHA, and click the login button. This will take you to your dashboard, where you’ll see an overview of your TSC details and the appraisal activities of the teachers in your institution.
Step 2: Accessing the Appraiser Dashboard
Once logged in:
- Click on the Appraiser Dashboard menu to open a page that summarizes both the completed and pending appraisals within your school.
- Pending appraisals will show the status as “awaiting appraisal,” while completed appraisals will display as “complete.”
Step 3: Appraising a Teacher
To appraise a teacher:
- Go to the Appraiser Appraisals menu and select Pending Appraisals to view a list of teachers whose appraisals are pending.
- Click on the Proceed to Appraisal button for the respective teacher to open the appraiser update page.
Teaching Standards
- Click on the Update Standard button to open the teaching standards update page.
- On this page, click Update Rating to access the standard ratings page.
- Using the evidence you’ve gathered, click on the Add Weight button to enter your rating. This will add the appraiser’s rating alongside the appraisee’s.
- If there are performance gaps, select the appropriate category and subcategory for the target. If no gaps exist, click No to proceed.
- Add any comments, then click Submit Rating.
- Continue this process for each teaching standard. Once a standard is successfully rated, the status will change from yellow to green.
- After completing all ratings, click Back to Appraisal to return to the main appraisal page.
Learner’s Progress
To appraise the learner’s progress:
- Click on Update Progress and cross-check the learner’s progress records using the evidence you have.
- Add general comments and click Save Comment to finish appraising this section.
Lesson Attendance
To appraise lesson attendance:
- Click on View Attendance to check the lesson attendance records submitted by the teacher.
- Counter-check the records and add any comments, then click Save Comment.
Step 4: Conducting Lesson Observations
A lesson observation is required at least once per term. To conduct one:
- Click Start Observation to open the lesson observation page.
- Click New Observation, then select the teacher being observed. You’ll be prompted to enter details like class, subject, lesson topic, number of learners, and the observation date.
- Once the observation is complete, score the teacher on the performance indicators and add comments as necessary. Click Save Observation Marks to complete.
Step 5: Scheduling an Appraisal Rating Meeting
After completing the appraisal:
- Schedule an appraisal meeting with the teacher by going to the Appraiser Appraisals menu and selecting Schedule Meeting.
- Choose the date and time for the meeting, then click Save Schedule. The teacher will be notified of the meeting details.
Step 6: Conducting the Appraisal Meeting
During the appraisal meeting:
- Go through each teaching standard, learner’s progress, and lesson attendance record with the appraisee.
- Discuss and agree on the weight ratings. If there is a consensus, select the Agree Weight option. In case of disagreement, select Disagree Weight, which will require arbitration.
- After agreeing on all ratings, enter final comments and verify the records.
- If any discrepancies or omissions occur, correct them before finalizing.
- Click Finish Appraisal Meeting to complete the process.
Step 7: Weekly Lesson Attendance Updates
Weekly lesson attendance records are updated by the deputy head of the institution. To add a record:
- Click on Add Attendance.
- Select the teacher, the week ending, the lesson taught, and the number of lessons recovered, then add any remarks.
- Click Save to complete the entry.
